COLLEGE OF DESIGN

PROTOTYPE/MODELING SHOP

Hours

Monday thru Thursday           8:00 am–10:00 pm

Friday                                         9:00 am–5:00 pm

Saturday                                   9:00 am–2:00 pm

This lab is a supervised resource during all operating times. This lab supports all disciplines, research, and special projects for the College of Design.

The Prototyp/Modeling Shop is a multimedia fabrication lab. It has woodworking, metal fabrication, and plastic fabrication capabilities.

This includes

  • Millwork for hardwood, vacuum bag forming
  • MIG welding, TIG welding, plasma cutting both steel and aluminum
  • Plastic fabrication including vacuum forming

In addition to our standard manufacturing processes, the lab has a CNC three-axis router. This is used by all disciplines from 2D to 3D modelmaking.

The lab is always open to all upper-division students (third year and above) to use during open hours, providing they have had the intro demonstration and have a lab card.

Special projects reserve hours during the semester upon faculty request. There are some second-year projects that require students to use the lab, but this is a faculty scheduled event with time constraints.
