Summer Study Abroad: Barcelona/Paris/Amsterdam

The College of Design at Arizona State University offers this three-week program in SPAIN, FRANCE and the NETHERLANDS to enable the participants to study the relationship between context and design in some of the most exciting Europeancities. The program structure, with guided field trips, seminars, and in depth, on-site analysis, will broaden the participants' perception of design as an active and dynamic part of larger cultural issues.

LOCATION

Barcelona (May 26–June 1)

Barcelona is a vital and visually stunning city located by the Mediterranean Sea. The city has become one of the most vibrant centers of design culture in Europe. To explore the richness of its people and design, we will concentrate on the work produced by two relevant design figures: Antoni Gaudi and Enric Miralles. The work of other contemporary designers will be also explored.

Paris (June 2–June 8)

At the French capital, the focus of our explorations will be several exceptional
museums, among them: The Louvre, D’orsay, and Pompidou, as well as the detailed study of major works by Le Corbusier, including the seminal Ville Savoye. The group will have ample opportunity to discover other relevant aspect of contemporary design in this city. A field trip to Versailles is also included.

Amsterdam (June 9–June 12)

Amsterdam was the historical centre of trade in Northern Europe and today is a vibrant city that still retains its picturesque character. From our hotel located by the Vondelpark in the Museum Quarter, we will explore the richness of this city concentrating on three major museums: The Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk and Van Gogh Museum.
