The College of Design at Arizona State University offers this program in PARIS (France) to enable the participants to study the relationship between context and design in one of the most exciting European cities. With its imposing urban schemes, Paris is the grand city of the world, and one of the undisputed centers of design and architecture. This trip invites participants to explore how design has shaped Paris and constitutes an integral part of the city in its different scales and manifestations.
The program structure, with guided field trips, seminars, and in-depth, on-site analyses will broaden the participants' perceptions of design as an active and dynamic part of larger cultural issues. In Paris, the focus of our explorations will be several exceptional museums, including The Louvre, d’Orsay, Pompidou, and the controversial Qua de Brandly, as well as the detailed study of major works by Le Corbusier, including the seminal Ville Savoye. The group will have ample opportunity to discover other relevant aspects of contemporary design in the city. A field trip to Versailles is also included.
