Bio

Professor Bernardi is originally from Argentina where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the National University of Cordoba. Following a period of professional practice and teaching in Argentina, Professor Bernardi left for the United States, where he was awarded a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati.

Professor Bernardi is noted for his interest in the poetic capacities of materials as well as his interest in theoretical inquiry and the significance of the cultural milieu on design. His work has been exhibited in Italy in Ceramics in Architecture and published under the title, “In Praise of Materials: the Poems of Jorge Luis Borges in Ceramics,” and reprinted in Monographs in Materials and Society  by Techna Editorial in Florence. He has published several papers on the relationship between design and materials in cultural settings and, with the support of a Graham Foundation Fellowship, he completed his research of the Curutchet house, the only house built by Le Corbusier in the Americas. A part of that research has been published as “Le Corbusier’s Curutchet House: In Praise of Memory,” in the Person-Environment Series for the Center for Environment Design Research at the University of California at Berkeley. He is currently working on a project entitled "Designing Modernity in Argentina: 1880-1945"

Professor Bernardi is willing to be a committee chair or member on graduate research committees focusing upon design and context; modernity and design; materiality and technics; and Latin America and design
