Bio

Yoshihiro Kobayashi is an Assistant Professor in School of Architecture at Arizona State University. He received Ph.D. degree, major in Architecture and minor in Computer Science from University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from Waseda University in Japan.

His research is about the application of artificial intelligence in Architecture and Urban Planning, specifically how to extract the design knowledge by using the technologies of soft computing, which includes neural networks, fuzzy systems, and genetic algorithms. His dissertation was to develop a computer system to extract man-made objects from satellite images automatically using fuzzy MLP (multiple layers perceptron).

Currently, he is teaching a series of courses about computer programming in JAVA mainly for MS students. The courses are about developing 2D CAD (ANP590), 3D Computer Graphics (ANP530) and AI (ANP598) applications. The goal is to develop a Web-based AI CAD system using Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, PHP, Flash, Xindice (XML-DB). etc.
