Bio

Tom Witt holds an MFA degree from the College of Fine Arts, UCLA, with a major in Environmental Design. His research interests center on the application of scientific methodologies in the development of a theoretical framework for the activity of design: the Science of Design. Principle areas of concern include methods for enhancing communication network development among those affected by design solutions; methods for generating variety; and methods for evaluating performance in design. Professor Witt has a special interest in the development of models for decision making in design which has manifested itself in a study of the relationship between the behavior of a dissident minority and divergent thinking or creativity in group activities. Professor Witt is firmly committed to the conceptual use of the computer as an enhancement of the natural intelligence of the designer. In that regard, he is involved in the development of computer programs which will allow designers to trace the path of their design activity making the process transparent to all those potentially affected by the design solution.

Professor Witt would be willing to chair or participate on graduate committees related to creativity, design education, design evaluation, design methods, design theory, space planning and programming.
