For students that started studio sequence fall 2007 and have completed: (or are currently enrolled in) DSC 101, IND120, 121, and 122with a “C” or better.
Applying to pass the degree milestone requirement (second year) is competitive and limited by available resources. Selection is awarded to those applicants demonstrating the highest promise for professional success. Students applying to more than one degree program in the College of Design must submit a separate application and portfolio (if required) to each program. Students not enrolled at ASU when they apply to pass the degree milestone must also submit an application for admission to the university. Students that do not pass the degree milestone are not dismissed from the college and may reapply the following year or transfer to other programs. Students who plan to reapply should contact a college academic advisor. Transfers into programs are considered only on a space available basis, and such transfers are limited to students with equivalent course work who are competitive with continuing students.

Policy on Late Applications
- Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Qualifications
- Space is limited and the spaces available and selection to the program will be based on portfolio scores,overall ASU GPA and those students determined by the faculty admissions committee to have the best potential for academic success.
- For students that started studio sequence fall 2007 and have completed (or are currently enrolled in) IND 120, IND 121, IND 122, and DSC 101.
Transfer Students and Transfer Work
- Applications and portfolios will be accepted from students who have previously received approval for the transfer courses equivalent to the Industrial Design first year required courses.
- Transfer Transcripts (ASU transcripts are not requested): If your application includes courses that are being transferred to meet major course requirements, a transfer transcript must be included to verify enrollment from another institution in those courses.
- It will be expected that you request and ensure that an official transcript reflecting completion of those courses be received by the ASU Office of the Registrar by June 1, 2008.
- Provide a copy of those transcripts (the copy may be unofficial) to the College of Design Academic Advising Center in the College of Design South building (CDS) room 115 by June 1, 2008.
- Application Documents should be the first pages in the portfolio, page 1) application, page 2) certificate of admission, page 3) written element.
Deficiencies
- Must have completed (or be currently enrolled in) IND 120, IND 121, IND 122, and DSC 101.
- All general studies deficiencies must be completed before fall 2009 or the student will be removed from the program.

Written Element Requirements
- Written element - A book review as assigned in DSC 101, or comparable written work. It should be neatly typed and inserted in the Portfolio following the application documents. Please contact the chair of the Department of Industrial Design with questions.
Portfolio Requirements
- Original work is to be submitted. Please photograph, scan, or otherwise “copy” your originals, for your records prior to submitting the portfolio of original work. Specific studio assignments from IND 120 and IND 122 will be recommended to be included; however the actual work to be included shall be determined by the student. Include enough examples to show the depth of your accomplishments and skills.
Following is other work/information that may be included, but is not required:
- Work done in other programs, particularly when the work was accepted for transfer credit in a required lower-division studio.
- Samples of professional work may also be included to show your skill level in a particular area.
Portfolios must consist of original work in an 11” x 17” format. It must be submitted in a clear protector sheet portfolio. Portfolios must include a demonstration of proficiency in the following:
- Problem Solving Process
- Sketching/ Drawing
- Drafting, Technical Drawing, and Lettering
- 2-D Composition
- 3-D Sketch Models
- Writing
- 3-D Aesthetics and Form Development
- Craftsmanship
Portfolio Return
- Where: College of Design North building, room 162
- When: Portfolios may be claimed in person on July 7, 2008 or later. We will allow a third party to pick up your portfolio for you with written and signed permission. While care will be taken in handling the portfolios, the College of Design will assume no liability for loss or damaged materials.
General Information
- If you have re-taken a class, you should check with the Office of the Registrar to ensure the lower grade has been deleted.
- Students applying to more than one program must submit separate application materials including a separate portfolio as required by that major.
- If you change your mailing address between the time you submit your application to pass the milestone and the admission decision notice date, please contact the Department(s) that where you applied to update the address on your program application. You must make any official address changes on the ASU interactive website. For assistance contact the Office of the Registrar.
Admission Decision
- Students will be notified of the admissions decision on or before: July 1, 2008.
Matriculation
- Students that are accepted are expected to begin the upper-division professional program at the beginning of the immediate next fall term. If you have any questions regarding this policy please contact the department chairperson.
