COMPUTER LABS

Computing Policies

  1. The computer labs/classrooms (CDS330 and CDN255 ) are regularly required for university classes. Students may use these rooms for school projects when they are not in use for a class, but must yield when classes are scheduled. Please check the class schedule which is posted in the window of the 330 lab.
  2. The College of Design computers are to be used for school-related work only.
  3. A person present in the room has priority over an absent user. You may leave your work unattended, but any one needing to use the computer can close your work.
  4. Save files on the hard drive on Macs, not the desktop. Save files in the Student Data folder on PCs.
  5. Files saved on shared lab and studio computers are not backed up. It is your responsibility to backup files to external media (floppy disk, zip disk, memory stick or AFS m: drive space) before you log out. Files saved on the hard drive may be erased at any time.
  6. Remember to LOG OUT of the system when you leave.
  7. Our security system relies on the locked door – keep the doors shut & don't let other people in.
  8. The Digital Lab in CDS330 provides 1 Large-Format Black & White printer, 1 Large-Format Color Printer, 2 Small Format Color printers, 1 large-format scanner, 2 laser cutters, and a 3-D prototyper. Jobs are paid for by SunCard only. Check with operators for costs and hours of service.
  9. Protect the equipment as if it is your own - it may be your only resource to get your work done.
  10. Report security problems immediately to the Associate Dean's Office or to ASU Police.
  11. Report equipment problems to College of Design Systems Support (Ellie Large, John Murnane or Dennis Wharton). You can use the "Problem Report" icon on any lab/studio desktop to report problems electronically.
