I chose the MSD program at ASU after researching every other human factors program I could find. The professors and curriculum at ASU offered a unique mix of industrial design, human factors research, and education that I didn’t see anywhere else. In addition, the size of ASU promised a lot of opportunities to learn and share with other students and departments.
Applying the rigor of the scientific method to design research enriches the experience and adds value to the results. Even though we are, in some ways, an emerging discipline, it’s important to learn from other domains and practitioners of research in engineering, medicine, business, and education.
Thanks to the distinctiveness of the MSD program at ASU, I am able to offer my colleagues and clients a unique perspective. Most importantly, I’m equipped with the ability to translate research data into actionable insights that inform the product development process. Finally, the mentorship and guidance from professors, both in and out of the classroom, gave me the confidence I needed to effectively enter the workforce as a capable practitioner of human factors and design research.
