Graduate Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I send my application and materials to you? To the Graduate College? To Both?
A:

The applications and all materials are sent directly to the Graduate College. PUT YOUR APPLICATION I.D. NUMBER ON ALL YOUR MATERIALS.

Q: There is no mention of writing samples or portfolios as part of the portfolio but are they preferred?
A:

Writing samples and portfolios are not preferred.

Q: I have obtained letters of recommendation, where do I send them? Should they come directly from the sponsors or from me?
A:

Letters of recommendation should go to the Graduate College and come directly from the sponsors. PUT YOUR APPLICATION I.D. NUMBER ON ALL YOUR MATERIALS.

Q: Where do I send my transcript? May I send a copy of my transcript?
A:

Transcripts must be official transcripts sent from your College to the ASU Graduate College.

Q: If my application is received in the summer will I still be admitted for Fall Semester?
A:

If your application is late, it will be reviewed late, therefore you will not know until the last minute if you have been accepted for the Fall Semester.

Q: I work full time, can I enroll in the Masters Program but take only one class a semester?
A:

The Master’s degree has two tracks, the two year track for full time students and the three year track for part time working professionals. Please see curriculum information.

Q: I am a working professional and am not interested in the Masters degree, can I sit in on masters classes?
A:

You may audit classes by paying the fee for the number of credit hours and any class fees.

Q: What kind of financial aid can I expect from the School of Planning?
A:

The School has a few Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant positions. The University Financial Aid Office can help you seek other funding.

Q: What if I have other questions when I get there?
A:

A MUEP Orientation and a BSP Orientation will be held the first week of the Fall semester.

Q: I noticed the requirement for the program is a statistics prerequisite, I have not taken statistics.
A:

The School offers PUP 394 Statistics for Planners during the second 5 week summer session. It is an internet class and can be taken in Arizona or before you arrive.

Q: Can I defer my admission to the MUEP program?
A: You may defer your admission for one year

Q: I have questions regarding the Graduate Fee, who do I talk to?
A:

Q: My Bachelor Degree is not in Planning will I be admitted to the MUEP?
A:

If your grade point is good and you don’t mind taking some basic Planning courses in addition to the graduate work you will be able to receive a Planning Masters degree.

Q: How can I add a minor to my program?
A:

See the Advisor for the Department of your major degree, they can add it to your DARS.

Q: How can I get an over ride into a class?
A:

Q: Can I drop a course.
A:

It is best to contact your Advisor before you drop a course.

Q: I have questions regarding my Internship, who do I ask?
A:

Q: Is there a class schedule and times that I could look at to plan my classes?
A: The ASU Schedule of Classes will give you information on the most current semesters.

Q: I am an International Student, what are the job opportunities in the United States for a foreign graduate of your program?
A:

You will need to check with the International Students office to find out what is needed to work in the United States as a foreigner.

Q: Can someone take me on a tour when I arrive from out of town?
A:

There is a daily ASU tour.

Q: The application asks what degree I graduated with, I will not graduate until May, it also asks for Junior-Senior GPA, this is my 5th year in school. Should I put my GPA that I received after my first 60 credits?
A:

The degree you anticipate receiving is the answer; your 300 and 400 classes can be used for your GPA.
