TRANSFER STUDENTS

Information for College of Design Transfer Students

As a new, incoming transfer student in the College of Design, you are required to meet with a college advisor prior to scheduling classes. At your meeting, we will evaluate your transfer credits, explain our programs, and recommend fall courses. This meeting will help make sure that you get started on the right course for scheduling classes for your program and answer any questions you may have about your program of study. The advisors can also help you with other information about student services and refer you to other people and programs on campus that will help you be a successful student. As a new student, you will not have clearance to preregister or register for classes until you have met with an advisor. Once you have been advised, you will be cleared to register or preregister for fall classes.

If you are a declared major in the BA in Design Studies, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design), Planning, or Housing and Urban Development, please call 480.965.3584 to set up an appointment with an advisor.

If you are a major in Architecture or Landscape Architecture, please call 480.965.3536 to set up an appointment with an advisor.

If you are a transfer student with studio work completed at another institution and you wish to try to get equivalent credit at ASU, you will need to submit a portfolio to be evaluated by appropriate College of Design faculty for acceptance as equivalent to our college studio courses. Studio courses frequently do not transfer as equivalents but can be counted as electives.

For Architecture and Landscape Architecture courses, please submit a portfolio (in 8.5 x 11 inch format) to the Academic Advising North office, AED 162, for evaluation.

For Visual Communication, Interior, or Industrial Design studio classes, please submit a portfolio to the Academic Advising South office, ARCH 115, for evaluation. Portfolios can be submitted in 8.5 X 11 inch format or on a CD.

In addition to meeting with an advisor, in order to preregister or register for fall 2006 classes, students must accomplish the following:

  • You must have activated your ASURITE ID, which can be found in the materials you have received from the ASU Undergraduate Admissions office. Your ASU ID number and PIN are your key to accessing various computerized and SunDial telephone services at ASU.
  • If you need to take any math classes at ASU, you must take the Math Placement Test in order to register for a math course and to determine the appropriate math course that matches your skill level. The test can be taken online at the Math Placement website.
  • If you did not take the ACT or SAT test, or if you are not transferring an English composition course from another institution, you may have to take the English placement test—call University Testing Services 480.965.7146 for more information. For more information on testing, visit University Testing Services.
  • You must have your immunization history recorded with Student Health and Wellness Center. These may be faxed to 480.965.8914. For questions regarding immunizations, visit the Campus Health Services website or call 480.965.8177.
