Vol. 2’s theme is Public Landscapes in Post-war Cities, a topic born from a School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture interdisciplinary studio in the spring of 2007 that looked at the past and future of Papago Park, Metropolitan Phoenix’s largest and most important public park.
In this issue, we argue that public landscapes play a different role in newer urban centers such as Phoenix than they do in older, more compact cities – that the park tradition exemplified by such iconic landscapes as San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park fit uneasily into the suburbanized environments of postwar places.
