The School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture recognizes design as a collaborative and synthetic process that uses formal analysis, issues of sustainability and energy, historical precedent, and integration of landscape, built-form, and urbanism to help to define the work of architecture in contemporary society. The program is uniquely positioned to examine these issues within the context of one of the fastest growing metropolitan centers in the United States. A sophisticated city of creative talent, forward-thinkers, professionals, and a new generation of institutions responding to changing conditions is developing out of this growth. At the same time, this growth is surrounded by challenges and unanswered questions about our culture and the values we place in the city, public space, suburban sprawl, the precious resources of the environment, and the very nature of architecture in the context of such powerful natural and cultural conditions.
The Architecture program is housed in the same academic unit with the Landscape Architecture program—the School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture—and students from both programs share many of the same core design courses. The Architecture and Landscape Architecture program has attracted some of the best scholars and creative talent to educate a new generation of architects and landscape architects. The curriculum explores the values of and critical issues in design today and is a program that is uniquely positioned for students to collaborate with their peers and faculty in both architecture and landscape architecture, as well as with all the design disciplines of the college. |
