CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
The certificate is comprised of 15 credit hours. The 15 credit hours are broken down into a proseminar class (3 credit hours), three elective courses (9 credit hours) from an approved list of transportation-related courses (including at least one from a field outside the student's major), and a capstone research paper that explores a transportation problem from a multidisciplinary perspective (3 credit hours). Students are strongly encouraged to include, as one of the three elective courses, a course in methods or techniques applicable to transportation systems planning.
In developing a capstone
paper students are encouraged to work with transportation professionals in
their area of interest to identify a topic that is of interest to the broader
public.
A thesis in transportation
may substitute for a capstone paper. Internships are optional.
All decisions related
to program offerings, admissions, and departmental participation are made
in cooperation with the Transportation systems Certificate Admissions and
Advisory Committee, which includes a member from each participating department.
Students need to be aware that the transportation capstone and/or thesis do not replace a final culminating experience for a degree (i.e., Thesis, applied Project, Capstone, and Dissertation).
