Biography

Danielle Foushee's is an artist and designer whose current work involves public art, placemaking, and biophilia. Public projects include commissions from Storefronts Seattle at Amazon HQ, Seattle City Parks, and the City of Bellevue, Washington. Foushée recently undertook a 12,000-mile road trip — to survey and experience firsthand — public/outdoor art throughout the western United States. Visit her field notes at mowart.tumblr.com.

In 2017, she was selected as one of 17 recipients of the 2017 artist research and development grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts. The materials developed will be used to build scale models of possible shade shelter designs for public places. She will use these prototypes to apply for additional funding and full-scale commissions in the future.

She is an assistant professor of visual communication design in The Design School at Arizona State University.

Research Interests

Public Art " Place-Making [Place-Keeping] " Design for Public/Community Engagement

Participatory Design Processes " Design Thinking " Strategic Design

My research concentrates on visual-rhetorical expressions in public environments (primarily associated with public art), the dialectics among assorted visual interventions in those places, and the resulting (un)intended stories and truths revealed about people and their places.
