Clinical Assistant Professor, Landscape Architecture, Urban and Environmental Design

The Design School at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible position as Clinical Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Environmental Design. This is a non-tenure track appointment beginning Fall 2024. This position is renewable on an annual basis contingent upon availability of resources, satisfactory performance, university funding and the needs of the unit. This position will be located on the Tempe, Arizona campus.

We seek applicants with a focus on applied sustainability in the area of geographic information systems (GIS), spatial analysis, and design. The successful candidate is expected to teach studio and lecture courses in the LAUDED program, lead seminars based on research interests, mentor graduate student thesis projects and contribute to other programs in The Design School. Additional expectations for the position include contribution to an agenda of research/creative activity relevant to the School, University, and the discipline; participation in service to the program, school, and as appropriate the Institute and University; and participation in University and Design School community engagement endeavors. We are especially interested in applicants who are dedicated to advancing the ASU Charter and realizing ASU’s Design Aspirations.

 Required Qualifications

• A master’s degree in landscape architecture, environmental design, geospatial technologies, or a related discipline
• A minimum of three years of professional experience in landscape architecture, urban design, environmental design, geospatial technologies, or related discipline
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching landscape architecture, urban design, and/or environmental design courses at the university level
• Experience teaching innovative and technological tools of design

Desired Qualifications

• Experience teaching geospatial applications in design, such as GIS
• Experience teaching online courses at the university level
• Experience teaching visual assessment methods for site planning and design
• Demonstrated potential to pursue a research agenda capable of achieving national or international recognition
• Interest in pursuing interdisciplinary teaching
• Commitment to exploring the current and future role of landscape architecture and environmental design in environmentally and socially responsible design practices
• Capability to lead or develop online courses and curricula

About the Program

The Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, and Environmental Design (LAUDED) program features a strong faculty from varied backgrounds and collaborative relationships with other programs in The Design School and the professional community. The program offers an accredited four-year Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA) and a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) accredited by the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB). Additionally, the program offers a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design (BSED) and a Master of Urban Design (MUD).
