The Design School consists of several extraordinary facilities furnished with state-of-the-art equipment.
This shop is a supervised resource during all operating times. This shop supports all disciplines, research, and special projects for The Design School. The shop is located on the lower level of the Design North Building. Please scroll down for further information.
FALL 2020 UPDATES
Student capacity in the Shop is limited to 16 students at any given time.
Faculty have been polled to understand what classes have heavy Shop use planned within the curriculum.
Students, faculty, and staff will be required to remain physically distanced by at least six-feet apart at all times.
Face coverings are required at all times, in addition to standard Shop requirements of eye protection, closed-toed shoes, etc.

The Prototype/Modeling Shop is a multimedia fabrication lab. It has woodworking, metal fabrication, and plastic fabrication capabilities.

In addition to our traditional fabrication processes, the lab has a three-axis CNC mill, a three-axis CNC router and a water jet machine.
The lab is open to all upper-division design school students to use during open hours, providing they have had the intro demonstration and have a lab card. The staff has a combined 60+ years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, and design that serve to help students in best practices, and sound methodology in model building and prototype work.
Upon faculty request special projects can reserve specific hours during the semester.
