Prototype Modeling Shop

Experience the space.

The Prototype/Modeling Shop is a multimedia fabrication lab. It has woodworking, metal fabrication and plastic fabrication capabilities.

This includes:

  • Millwork for hardwood, vacuum bag forming.
  • MIG welding, TIG welding, plasma cutting both steel and aluminum.
  • Plastic fabrication including vacuum forming.

In addition to our traditional fabrication processes, the lab has a three-axis CNC mill, a three-axis CNC router and a water jet machine.

The lab is open to all upper-division design school students to use during open hours, providing they have had the intro demonstration and have a lab card. The staff has a combined 60+ years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, and design that serve to help students in best practices, and sound methodology in model building and prototype work.

Upon faculty request special projects can reserve specific hours during the semester.
