The Design School

The Design School in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks part-time California-based Faculty Associates for its programs in Los Angeles for the Spring 2024 semester.  The Los Angeles-based programs operate from the ASU California Center Grand.
 
The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person, remote, online, or a combination of those course structures. They will prepare course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes).  Faculty Associates positions are one semester, non-benefits eligible, fixed-term appointment with no tenure implications, not to exceed .40 FTE.  
The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment.  Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching with $3,000.00 per credit.

Terminal degree in design or related field (MFA, MDes, PhD) – OR – five years professional experience 

Evidence of teaching at the college level – OR – seven years’ experience in professional practice 
Interest in emerging design fields and interdisciplinary methods, practices and collaboration 
Commitment to student-centered pedagogy that respects students from diverse backgrounds 
 

The application deadline is November 22, 2023. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool.  Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until the position is filled. 
 
Faculty Associate vacancy announcements will be posted on a semester basis. Applicants who are not hired within the current academic year are welcome to re-apply - applications do not roll forward from the previous pool recruitment.
